Talking with Lucille Ball and a Mets Pimp

October 30, 2009 10:10 by Sarah

Some days this job can be a little off the wall. So today when I had to multitask by writing a blog about elephant poo paper products and interview the Motivators Halloween costume winners in character, I really almost bit off more than I could chew. And shy of having some sort of mental episode (which still isn't completely ruled out, just waiting in the wings) I pulled through. But I will say this: thank God it's friday. Without further adieu, let's start with our Motivators female costume contest winner: Lucy Ricardo!

Lucy! It's so good to see you! Congratulations on winning the Motivators costume contest! How are you?

Well I'm doing just great! It's such a pleasure to see that my fashion sense is still keen even all these years later

So what brings you to Motivators? Did things not work out at the chocolate factory?

Ooh Sarah, I don't think you need to bring that back up. But I did bring some chocolates along with me today that you're welcome to enjoy...if you don't mind where I've been keeping them. Ethel and I spent months looking for jobs after that horror, and you all know how much I love imprinted aprons...so I thought I fit right in at a promotional products company.

That's true. How is Ethel these days?

oh still that same ole Ethel! Her and Fred are coming for dinner tonight! She's bringing a pie.

Delicious! I believe I heard something about you having an issue in one of our factories...some mix up involving promotional water bottles?

Who do they think they are having me screwing on caps to promotional water bottles that weren't BPA free! I decided to help out the environment by stuffing the bottles in my hat and shirt...but...well...they aren't as small chocolates

I'm sure Ricky had something to say about that when he got home.

Oh my, "Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucy!" Just another job I couldn't quite perfect. "What ah you crazy or somthing?" Oh you'll have to excuse me just for one moment, I've got to ge tthe loaf out of the oven!

Lucy, we're at work. There are no ovens here. You crazy redhead. I also believe I heard about a little mixup in shipping involving some promotional hand sanitizers?

You haven't forgotten how crafty I am, have you? I just introduced myself to the lovely man down the hall, they've got a full kitchen in their office! And have you got me confused with Amelia Bedelia!? I don't go messing things up that much! It was that darn kitty cat that knocked over a couple crates of promotional products last week. She just threw them back in and all the sudden Ali's bat mitzfa custom chocolates turned into Freds Auto Shop promotional hand sanitizers!

Do you have any big plans for Halloween?

Weeeell yeees! Yes! For halloween, Ricky and I are taking little Ricky out for some treats! I just finished stitching up his big pumpkin suit...only a few more years of this and then he'll want to be a flashy purple pimp like those other guys.

So Lucy, what your favorite thing about working at Motivators? Aside from the unlimited access to all our custom chocolates?

Oh you know I don't think I can pick just one...it might be the variety of people Motivators opens their doors to pajama mommas, Dr. Horrible groupies, pirates even Scots! I always go home with great stories for Ricky...even when he doen't want to listen.

(At this point Kanye West barged in and told he'd let us finish, but that Anthony Zuaro's Desmond costume was the best costume of all time. True story. Even snapped a photo.

Lucy returned to writing product descriptions and I turned my attention to the Mets Pimp.

Hey there...Mets Pimp. Congratulations on being the Motivators Costume contest winner. How's it feel?

It's hard out there for a Mets pimp. It's good to get me some credit.

Yeah, the Mets had a rough year didn't they? How you taking it?

You know, as goes the team as goes my business. The Yankee pimps a few blocks down have been swimming in money this year. Nowadays, it's been a lot of lonely quiet nights.

Last night must have been hard for a pimp like you, what with the Phillies and the Yankees in the World Series

Well its offseason for all the other pimps now. Most pimps just go off and hibernate for the winter but I prep for next season.

Prepping eh? Buying some pimp-y promotional products I suppose? What items get you new business these days?

Well you have to go heavy on the anti-bacterial sprays nowadays you know what I'm sayin? A pimp like me loves anything 4 color process though. You gotta rep all your colors.

That's true. And let's talk about your pimp cane. Is that custom?

The diamond cane is custom made and my personal trademark in fact. When things shake up the cane really shines.

I'm sure...every pimp needs a cane. So what does a Met Pimp need to survive these days?

What I do ain't too different from real estate if you know what I'm sayin. It's all about location and networking.

That's...very true. But pimps don't need promotional products? Surely I would think that you would need something with your name on it.

Well like I said anti bacterial sprays come in very handy in this industry, what with that swine flu and all. I also appreciate me some bottle opener keychains because my clientele appreciates a good drink during a baseball game.

That's true. So since you weren't so successful pimping the Mets this year (please don't smack me with your pimp hand) what is your plan for next year?

Sadly, the Mets pimp answered the phone to try and hone his pimping skills to a client in need of some pimping promotional items. And thank god he did, because yours truly can't really take anymore of the schitzo IMs. I escaped just barely with my mind in tact, so with the last few non-psychotic brain cells I have left, I'll say this:

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
