With the prices of oil sky rocketing, there's one promotion that everyone seems to be jumping on board with: Free/Cheap Gas. Jeep is currently running a promotion that will enable all new Jeep owners to only pay $2.99 a gallon for the next 3 years. In fact, Chysler (Jeep's parent company) is running the gas card promotion on all their vehicles, yet it hasn't proven effective. According to Auto Beat, Chrysler reported a 25% sales decline for May. This newly reported fact hasn't stopped anyone from using gas as an incentive though, and as several Motivators learned on Friday night: it works.
Many of us headed to one of our favorite Happy Hour spots to celebrate a birthday of one of our favorite art department members, Mike. It was at the local bar that we also were hit with the free gas promotion. Normally, we're bombarded with promotional products from various sponsors. Whether there's promotional t-shirts from Bud Light, or promotional visors from Corona (a personal fav of mine), there's always something that people are clamoring for. Now I ducked out early and I'm sure that there were plenty of giveaways later on. But it seemed that the most popular giveaway was an hourly promotion for a $50 gas card. Now here on Long Island, depending on the type of car you have $50 may not even fill it up. But $50 is $50. In fact, even if you know someone who wins it's unbelievably exciting. Just take a look at the IT Department's own Anthony when his girlfriend won the second drawing of the night. To quote him, "Now that is the face of a man who just won free gas."
