The first Earthrise to be witnessed by a human

December 24, 2008 06:57 by Kishan
Forty years ago, the biggest TV audience in history tuned in to watch humankind's first close encounter with another world, as the crew of Apollo 8 reached lunar orbit. Here, the Apollo historian and film-maker Dr Christopher Riley gives his perspective on the mission and how that Christmas Eve of 1968 changed the world. Back in 1948, the British astrophysicist Sir Fred Hoyle predicted that when spaceflight enabled us to see the whole Earth from space, the view would change us forever. Hoyle would have to wait another 20 years before humans would get to see this view with their own eyes, when the crew of Apollo 8 became the first astronauts to leave Earth orbit. By then, a handful of satellites had snapped a number of breathtaking portraits of the Earth from afar and even a stunning shot of the Earth rising above the Moon's surface from lunar orbit.
But on Christmas Eve 1968, none of the astronauts on board Apollo 8 were ready for the opportunity to witness their own Earthrise. In all the months of training and preparation which had preceded the mission, no-one had thought to schedule an attempt for the crew to glimpse and record the most moving of sights, as their jewel of a home planet, suspended in the blackness of space, rose from behind the barren lunar horizon.

Holiday Gift Basket

December 17, 2008 09:33 by Kishan

Sometimes you just don't know what to give for the Holidays or you're a last minute shopper and don't want to deal with the long lines. Well I find sending Gift Baskets are the best thing ever. You don't have to wrap them or drop them off. It saves time, plus if you're like me you won't have to deal with the inlaws, just kidding. With such a wide variety of cookies, cashews, and chocolates they're guaranteed to even put a smile on the Grinch's face. Happy Holidays.

Have you ever had that great bottle of wine that you just can't finish because you had enough, and you try to put back in the cork but it just won't work. Well I had this bottle of wine this weekend I finally finished, I had left over from Thanksgiving Day dinner. I'm so glad I had my wine bottle cap to savor the flavor of the that great bottle of wine. So I might get a few more, I think it's a great stocking stuffer for Christmas.

Coffee good to the last drop.

November 26, 2008 10:51 by Kishan

In recent decades, more than 19,000 studies have been done examining the impact of coffee. Overall, research has shown that coffee is more helpful than harmful. An NBC report said that some studies show drinking less than 24oz of coffee per day decreases bladder and colon cancer because of its ability to keep the body regular. So I just add a new item to my Christmas list that I will be purchasing for myself. This is the best thing ever for someone like me that's always rushing in the morning. The Express Coffee Brewer perfect for people on the go.

Hand Sanitizers.

November 12, 2008 09:53 by Kishan
Yeah, so, the other day, I went to one of those Chinese buffets for lunch.  I was in heaven.  All this massive amount of food for the price of $9.99.  I just couldn't go wrong.  One of the last things I put on my plate was shrimp.  It wasn't just any kind of shrimp, though.  It was shrimp that wasn't pre-peeled.  So I patiently sat there, peeling my shrimp one by one and eating them.  Needless to say, my hands got all slimy and shrimpy smelling.  I paid my bill and made a beeline for the bathroom to go wash my hands.  To my dismay, the bathroom was for employees only.  What was I to do? I couldn't go back to work all smelly.  But then I remembered, I always keep hand sanitizer in the glove compartment of my car.  So I ran to the car, and poured pretty much the whole bottle into my hands.  I went back to work and not a single person complained about how I smelled.

Winter Necessity

October 29, 2008 03:39 by Kishan

As you all know, rolling out of bed and getting ready for work in the morning is a difficult task.  So here I was the other day, getting ready for work at a much slower pace than usual.  I looked at the clock just as I was about to walk out the door, and I realized I would be late if I didn't get a move on it.  I literally ran out the door and stood on my front stoop in complete shock.  The lawn was covered in a massive amount of frost.  I couldn't believe this was happening in OCTOBER.  As I stood there with my mouth hanging open, it occurred to me that if the lawn was covered in frost, then my car must be covered in frost also.  I slowly turned my head, and there it was, a frost covered car.  I was already so late in leaving for work, I didn't know what to do.  It would take a good ten minutes if I put the defrost on, so I started to wipe the frost with my jacket sleeve.  This did nothing, except leave my sleeve cold and wet.  And then I remembered, I always keep my ice scraper in my car.  I grabbed my ice scraper and started scraping at the windows like a crazy person.  And to top it all off, I even made it to work on time.

Saved by the Tool.

October 22, 2008 09:17 by Kishan

This morning started off great, left home a little early on my way to work at Motivators. As I pulled in the parking lot of Dunklin Donuts my car decided to shut off.. So me being the car Guru that I am popped open the hood, checked my battery connection, etc evertyhing seems to be fine. Started the car again but it was idling kind of rough. I couldn't find the problem. Called a friend of my that happens to be Audi Tech. He explained there is a Idle adustment screw that I should turn it up a bit. I was so happy to have my Multi Functional Tool
